If you haven't read anything by the author Terry Pratchett, do. Even if fantasy isn't your 'thing'. He was brilliantly funny.

And he just died today at the age of 66. Only a few years older than my dad...

I also have yet to read any of his works, but have heard nothing but good things about him, but didn't realise he was so advanced in years.

I, too, am a huge fan. And it is a sad day indeed. I started with The Wee Free Men when the children were small.
