There is.
It's different in each state. But, in Oklahoma if I move into an abandoned home for 15 years and no one tries to evict me then I just fill out the paperwork and I become the owner of the property. Same thing if I build a fence, and just push it a little further out than it should be onto the neighbors property. If they never contest it for 15 years it becomes a part of my property.
If you really want to take over someone else's property, I suggest you watch for people who own homes to go to jail for really long sentences. Someone with no connection who will likely die in prison. Move in and take over the property before it can be inherited by kin.
