I bet there were many celebrations yesterday in Brazil and South America in the German enclaves! As you are well aware, there are hundreds of them. To give some indication to those who have no idea of the extent and pervasiveness of the German enclaves, Valter, my ex father in-law, only learnt to speak porkandcheese when he went to school. The language spoken in the family home was German.

I've been to many towns in Brasil where a German dialect is the first language. My first experience was unsettling as I recognised some German words, but the majority was unrecognisable and I subsequently learnt that each immigrant population brought and propagated their own regional dialects.
